KAPPA SIGMA

University of Alberta

THESE ARE THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES

The impact of the COVID pandemic the past two years has made it very challenging to experience the full range of campus life that those who came before us enjoyed. That's where we come in. Kappa Sigma is a Greek fraternal organization at the University of Alberta dedicated to offering a better university experience to men just like you for over 80 years!

TOGA, TODAY, TO BE A BETTER MAN!

Sure, fraternities are stereotypically known for large parties on campus but that is less than 1/10th of the experience we provide. What we hope for most is to help you to become a better man.

Kappa Sigma is built upon four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Fellowship, and Service.

Kappa Sigma Pillar Scholarship
Kappa Sigma Pillar Leadership
Kappa Sigma Pillar Fellowship
Kappa Sigma Pillar Service
Kappa Sigma pillars: scholarship leadership fellowship service

Simply put, we provide opportunities to our members to broaden their horizons, build their skills, meet more people, and become a more well-rounded man. You will learn practical skills (project management, sales, event planning, accounting and so much more), participate in intramurals, exchanges and fundraisers within the campus and Greek communities, make life-long friends, and see and do things others may not even dream about in their university career. The people you meet now, especially those you meet through the fraternity, will be the people who help you move, stand with you at your wedding, help you name your children, attend your parents' funerals, and pick you up when you need it most decades from now. Fraternity friendships are serious friendships.

KAPPA SIGMA IS ABOUT BEING MORE TOMORROW THAN YOU ARE TODAY

We are looking for men who are interested in becoming better men. Kappa Sigma is all about building a more well-rounded man, a college man whose experience goes beyond his faculty to embrace the entire campus, other disciplines, people from other places.

Over the past decade, Kappa Sigma has awarded nearly $5 million in scholarships to students across Canada and the US. Over the same period, we have raised almost $22 million and donated 4.7 million hours to charitable causes that include food banks, fighting cancer and other chronic diseases, support for injured veterans, and more.

We will connect you with an alumni-mentor to guide you through crucial life skills that are not taught at school, like how to build a resume, prepare for job interviews, and what to do when you accept a job offer; how to manage your finances; how to cook for 20.

As a Kappa Sigma, you may travel to any one of nearly 300 chapters in almost every major Canadian and US city, knock on the door, and instantly be welcomed with a place to stay, an amazing story, and probably new friends.

KAPPA SIGMA INTERNATIONAL FRATERNITY

Kappa Sigma is the largest college social fraternity in the world with more than 200,000 living members, including over 14,000 undergraduates and almost 300 chapters and colonies located at colleges and universities across Canada and the United States. We are a volunteer-driven organization, and every chapter has its own individual alumni support.

Kappa Sigma's origins stretch back to 1400 at the University of Bologna where Greek scholar Manual Chrysolorus established a society of students for their mutual protection against the unscrupulous predation of a corrupt governor.

Carried across the Atlantic Ocean, that society was re-established in North America, formally founded in 1869 at the University of Virginia. Kappa Sigma International Headquarters is based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
